Sevendust Gravity Kills Flaw

Written by Gawkman on April 5th 2002, 12:00 AM, 1 Comments

Gawkman reviews his fifth Sevendust concert, and Kayn's sixth. He's still one up on me! Bastard.

Gawkman's Final Verdict!

Sound/Production
3.5/5
Sound was pretty muddy due to room acoustics. Good kick drum sound, though.

Presentation
4.5/5
Sevendust was great. The other bands were lacking in this area.

Deathy/Heavyness
3/5
Sevendust saved this category. Flaw was kinda heavy...

Overall: 3.6666666666667/5

Agree? Disagree? Impartial? Stupid? Comment on it!

You know how you go to concerts sometimes, and you see some prick with a hot chick, and they're hanging on eachother and stuff before the show starts, and you wish you could have one of those hot metal chicks hanging on you before the show? Well, HAH! I was that prick at this show! Although I wouldn't consider mah sweet thang exactly a "metal chick"; to officially be a metal chick includes skankage for some reason, and skanky my girl is not. But she does enjoy the heavy-age, and she does like the music. So she shall receive the "metal chick" title for the remainder of this review.

I shall point out many Flaws.

*yawn*

There was a time I would have enjoyed this band. That time was when I had never experienced a *big* concert before. The in-yer-face-bass that blasts you from the bombastic PA; the wall of indecipherable treble that is the guitars. The cool sounding screams that slightly distort while coming out of the speakers. Flaw was not bad. They did not sound bad. They played their songs, and they did them well. And that's about it. The singer stood there pretty much the whole time. Well, all of them for that fact except for the guitarist, he was getting pretty into it. The singer sang some. Uhhhh... that's all I remember from this band. That's probably a bad thing, right? Anyway, I haven't heard their cd, maybe it's a little better. Let me know if it is, okay? Otherwise, I'm probably not going to be getting it.

Their keyboardist was killing me. Must have been the gravity of the situation.

I've heard a song or two by Gravity Kills on the radio, and I've always been indifferent. Never hated the stuff, never really loved it. So I figured experiencing them live might be okay.
I'm not gonna sugar coat this: they were terrible. Just plain terrible. The last time I laughed out loud like that at a band while they were playing due to their ridiculous stage moves was while witnessing the horrible rockstar-wannabe antics of the bassist from Puddle Of Mudd.

It was the keyboardist. *cringe*

First of all, it took me a while to figure out that it was a guy, not a girl. *cringe again* I could get past that; just one of those goth things. But it gets worse; his keyboard was on a little rotating stand which could be lifted so he would do that so everybody could see his keyboard- then he would slam it down really hard. Ooooh. Intense.

Then he did it again.

And again.

And yet again.

OKAY! WE KNOW YOU CAN SLAM YOUR KEYBOARD DOWN! Now PLEASE stop!

He didn't, so we all went outside to get some air/use the bathroom while waiting for the rest of the set to finish. I suppose there was some good things about the band: for example, the fact that they pretty much sucked live (automatically making this review more entertaining through human nature's interest in negativity). And here's another good point: *note to self: don't forget to come up with other good point later*

The Dust kills' you.

After quite some waiting, Sevendust proceeded to come out and just kick the shit out of everyone. They started the show with "Black", and the place turned into an instant pit. It was annoying though because they had a strobe light going a lot of the time, which is rather difficult to try to mosh to.

Big guy.

Big guy closer.

Big guy closer still.

Big guy arms length away.

Memory lapse.

Nice view of ceiling.

After playing "Black", they went through a nice set consisting of songs from all of their albums. And it was happy. One song that I particularly remember well was "Denial". I've seen them play 3 times since they've had the Home album out, and this is the first time that song has sounded the way it's supposed to. I don't know; it had always lacked heaviness until this show. This time it did not; as a matter of fact, I think it was one of the heaviest songs of the night. Heavier than "Bitch" even. *waits for chorus of virtual "ooooohs" to finish*

My honey... er, *ahem* "metal chick" was craving the violence, and going crazy. I was proud of her. Kayn was even moshing and going crazy! Wait a second, I was too, for that matter. Wait a second, I was even starting pits....

........

Cool! I could have died!

The set was rather long though, and everyone was pretty much exhausted by the time the great Sevendust left the stage. Of course, anyone that's seen Sevendust before knows that that's nothing different. I must say that a couple of the newer songs off "Animosity" were quite a bore. Apparently I wasn't the only who thought so; they played "Live Again", and it was pretty much a snoozer. This could be a good thing though, because it gave everybody a chance to recover. The heavier tracks off the album got a pretty good response. Lajon's voice started giving out near the end of the set (which it usually does for some reason... hmmmm..). They did their traditional cover of "Walk" by Pantera, which was well received. Ummmm, can I think of anything else significant to say?

No. That means the end of the review, and my Pluh.com review obligation has been temporarily fullfilled! Of course, it's like a haircut; it's only a matter of time until you have to do it again, and when that time comes, it will seem like you just did it.
